Artist Bio

Vanessa is originally from Berkshire and studied a BA (Hons) degree in 3 Dimensional Design at Manchester, working with wood, metal, ceramics and glass. She has since spent 25 years as an Art, Textiles and Product Design teacher, whilst continuing to make her own work. 
 
From her studio in the Forest of Dean, each sculpture is hand built using toasted stoneware clay, starting with the body and then slowly adding eccentric clothing and a hat. Vanessa manipulates the clay to make it look like fabric and adds coloured underglaze and glazes to bring each individual character to life. 
No two characters will ever be the same but they will always make you smile.
